Insulation Goes Natural
For Improved Performance
Long the popular choice, fiberglass insulation gets greener through improved performance,
easier installation, and enhanced impact on indoor air quality.
Owens Corning's EcoTouch Insulation represents a new class of high-performance fiberglass insulation batts for commercial and residential applications. The product line is made from a blend of at least 55 percent recycled material, and at least 30 percent of that is post-consumer recycled content, which measures up as the highest certified percentage in the fiberglass insulation industry. The binder uses plant based material and contains no formaldehyde, so it's safe enough for use in homes, schools, and health care facilities.Eco-benefits aside, installers will appreciate an unfaced fiberglass batt that offers better stiffness and less dust than conventional products, making it quicker and easier to install. That stiffness also leads to better recovery, which gives it better performance in small spaces and oddly shape cavities. Early research indicates that two-thirds of professional installers prefer EcoTouch insulation over its competition for its speed of installation, ease of cutting, and product recovery, stiffness, strength and softness.
According to Owens Corning, the product also rates well for its life cycle assessment: every pound of EcoTouch saves 12 times more energy annually than was originally used to produce it.
“Our new EcoTouch insulation products will help builders and contractors ensure that families enjoy more energy-efficient and comfortable homes, while providing the same thermal performance they have come to rely on in Owens Corning products ,” said Chuck Dana, group president of building materials for Owens Corning. “Our customers -- and their customers -- are increasingly interested in sustainable building solutions. This newest innovation reflects our relentless pursuit of the most environmentally sustainable and efficient ways to insulate homes and buildings.”

The product line has earned Children & Schools Certification; is USDA Certified as a biobased product; and SCS Certified for its recycled content. EcoTouch may contribute to as many as three LEED credits and also contributes to NAHB Green Certification.
